How it all began..

Before we begin with the "fun" of wedding planning, there needs to be a story...

Mike and I met at a strange time. We were two different people, living in two different places, and in two different stages of life. However, we found comfort and humor in our conversations. About 8 years ago, before IM was creepy, we started talking. I immediately knew that this guy was it - yep I said it.

Lets skip ahead... I graduated high school and moved to Oshkosh, WI. A town filled with packer-wear, sweatpants, college walks of shame, and the BEST thrift stores (highlight). I went there to finally kill the distance and start my career, nursing.  After two years of bullshit classes, I entered the nursing program. Mike and I, then moved-in together. You think after dating for 4 years it would be easy? Oh no. Instead, it was a challenge, but a great one. So, we graduated the same semester two years later. I found a job at the largest hospital in Milwaukee.

There was a month break before we could move into our apartment. I needed to study for my boards, so I moved in with my parents to fight the distraction. Let's get something out in the open, I am a huge nerd. I am one of those that panics about exams and cries if I don't get an A. I have no clue where that happened, because my parents never harped on me grades. Anyway, I needed breaks between the long hours of studying. My go-to's were walks and trespassing local Antique shops.

One beautiful day, my girlfriend (*cough* future maid of honor) and I found a gorgeous antique engagement ring. Like a dork I told Tara to let Mike know. She and I were thinking we would receive the typical response, "ask Santa." We were wrong. Those two collaborated and bought it-sneaky loves. When I returned it was gone. I tried not to think about it, but that was MY ring.

Now, Mike and I move into our sweet 2 bedroom apartment during a heat wave. Yes. The tenant prior had canceled the electricity, A/C was out of the question and apparently so was cleaning. We returned the next day to finish moving in. After the light was restored and the cleaning service left. We were finally alone. Music time.

Mike started one of his famous mixes. I started unpacking his ridiculous movie collection. Beatles.Who. Mike? Oh yes, I got the cheesy song. It was the perfect cheesy song. So, I noticed half way through and while placing Blade Runner in the bookcase. I turned around to find my handsome, sweaty boyfriend reaching for his back pocket.

This day was lovely. I found out all along he had my ring, got engaged, passed my nursing boards, and attended a Jason Mraz concert with friends. The Beginning.

I still exist....

Time to come back to reality....

Since, February I fell of the face of the earth. I wanted this blog to be my stress release. My reason to express my passions that I never got to enjoy. Instead it became another task in my crazy life over the last 6 months. Which was exactly what I did not want to happen.

Over a year ago, I decided to fall face first into adulthood. An exciting time for most and for me at first. I started my first nursing job fresh out of college, got engaged,  and moved into a new apartment in a somewhat new city, Milwaukee. It wasn't until winter, when I started the blog that I realized...Jenny you are bat shit crazy.

I had to take a step back and try to find what made me happy. It was hard actually. As a kid you get so excited for all these new adventures and as an adult you begin to just feel old. In the end, I found you need to look at the light at the end of the tunnel....the perfect cliche.

My wedding took up my free time because as usual I wanted to make everything. I loved all the DYI projects because I got to be me. I researched a lot about the themes I wanted, the DYI I would complete, and the people I wanted a part of it.

So, after planning a wedding on "off" weeks, dealing with family corks, DYI failures, and working 70 hour "on"weeks. It turned out beautifully, but I was too exhausted to do anything else in between.

Thus, I want to relive my wedding plans from a now unstressed me. Over the next few months I plan to get back into the swing of things and share what I did....along with a few other loves.

Be Mine, A Late Valentine

Well it has been way too long. The past month has been filled with crazy work schedules and birthday madness, but most of all love. February is the hallmark holiday that most Americans use to celebrate their love for another individual. My February has always been different.

Flare Fever

The 60's/70's are back. Well, in my eyes they never really left. I have always been a fan of the Fashion, Rock'n'Roll, Twiggy, and Marisa Berenson. Lately, my love has been high waisted flares. With the weather being surprisingly warm for Milwaukee, I was eager to put on some heels and rock dem bells.

Early this week I wore my new jeans:

Jeans - Levi's/ Blouse - UO/ Belt - Thrifted

Other looks to LOVE..

Travels

Late Friday night we returned from a beautiful, fun city to a freezing cold, but homey Wisconsin. The past few days at home have entailed me sleeping the days away. You would think that a two-hour difference wouldn’t be so bad? However, when you stay with musicians it is a whole other story. Lets just say I am sleep deprived.

During our trip we finally got to see old friends and view some sweet spots of the city. We didn’t do any touristy trips, which I am bummed about. The weather was rainy and not ideal for outdoor adventures: Golden Gate Park and Alcatraz…. NEXT TIME!

Instead we just absorbed the city:

Sushi Downtown: Kyoto Sushi

Best Soy Latte of My Life: Four Barrel

Beautiful vintage 70’s dresses that I cannot wait to reconstruct:
Thrift by the Pound (Clothes Contact)

Gorgeous Graffiti: Mission

Mixing Tracks: Different Fur Studios

Chinese Silk Lanterns for $1.50: China Town

A, B and the Sea, Rock Out: The Independent

Now I am off to bed! Day 3 of work week tomorrow and breakfast at Original Pancake House with my lovelies. Can't wait :)

Love,

Jenny Sue

SF BOUND!

I am so excited to finally be in San Francisco. Yesterday I finished my crazy, exhausting work week. Unfortunately, my fiancĂ© and I came down with a horrible cold a few days ago. I am feeling better, but Mike lost his voice. Either way, we somehow caught our flight early this AM and are now enjoying the city!  Here was my traveling get-up.

Aldo Boots/ Gap Basic Long Sleeve Tee/ Crochet Sweater (thrift find)/ Forever 21 Skinny Jeans.

So, we are here visiting are friends. A few years ago they moved to SF to pursue music. They are extremely talented musicians and have been making quite an impression on California. We can’t wait to see their show on Thursday at The Independent. Here is one of A B & THE SEA catchy tunes. Enjoy!

Love,
Jenny Sue

Mornings

Every other year I embark on journey that breaks me from reality. I set foot into large building where all I smell is antiseptic, all I see is sadness, and all I hear is why? or help me?

Four years ago an idea burst in my head that I wanted to become a nurse, and a damn good one. I have seen to many people sick and ignored that needed to be nurtured. In May 2011, I graduated with a BSN in nursing and my life changed. I was fortunate to have a job ready for me when I graduated. It is a large hospital around my hometown that is known for seeing unique cases. And oh, is my job unique.

I work a 7/70 schedule. Seven days in a row for ten hour shifts. The only benefit of this schedule is I have my next week off where I can get back in touch with life.

Remember when I said I needed to be healthy? Well, this is why. During these weeks you sleep a lot. Your schedule is eat, sleep, and work. This past week, I finally started something new and my job doesn’t seem so bad.

It’s called enjoy your morning! I work second shift, so mornings are all I get. I started my new routine of always making food. I plan breakfast and pack my own lunch. Thus far I have had more energy physically and mentally. Here are my breakfasts:

Manic Monday:

Alterra Coffee/ Oatmeal with Honey and Fruit Medley

Tuckered Tuesday:

Alterra Coffee/ Chobani Greek Strawberry Yogurt/ Apple Cinnamon French Toast

Wonderful Wednesday:

Alterra Coffee/ Egg Over Easy/ Wheat Toast/ Grapes

Tacky Thursday:

Alterra Coffee/ Cranberry Almond Crunch Post Cereal

Breakfast will always be my favorite meal to make. And yes I like my coffee. In Milwaukee we have a local coffee chain that has tasty, organic, fair trade beans. My love is NICARAGUA DON ZELEDÓN.
